Jacob Bros. offers a wide variety of filters to keep your air quality clean and pure.
Glass Floss Filter: This is the type of filter most often seen and purchased at hardware stores. This filter basically will only remove very large particles of dust and dirt. The glass floss filter is less than 2% efficient at removing particles from the air in your home. It is recommended that these filters be changed at least once a month, if not more often. Electrostatic Filter: A washable "electrostatic" filter is little more effective than the ineffective glass floss filter you are accustomed to seeing. It is less than 20% efficient at removing air borne particles, based on industry standards. This filter becomes more restrictive to airflow as dirt and dust build up, thus, it is recommended to clean this filter at least 2-3 times a month. Farr 30/30 Filters: Farr is a brand name for a particular type of deep-pleated micro-fiber filter that is designed to remove 30% of all air borne particles in your home. It is recommended that this filter be changed every 2-3 months. It is one of the most efficient "throw-away" filters that can be purchased. Electronic Air Cleaner (EAC): The Electronic air cleaner is a filtering device that uses a washable pre-filter and actual electricity to filter the air in your home. This type of air cleaner works "ok" when it is squeaky clean, but becomes less efficient as the dirt builds up. It is recommended that the filter be cleaned at least once a month, and the "power pack" to the unit can be quite costly to replace if problems occur. Space-Gard: Space-Gard is a brand name for a type of deep-pleated fiberglass filter that requires the unit to be "installed" on your furnace. This particular filter is a good choice, but changing the filter media can be quite tricky. Several giant "combs" support the pleats, and each "tooth" must be correctly fitted into the pleat. It is recommended that the filter media be replaced once a year; which can take an experienced technician approximately 15 minutes to do the job. UFO's: UFO is a filtering system that is made up of a filter box and (4) mini-pleated filters. Like the EAC and Space-Gard filters, this type of filtering device must be "installed" next to, or at the base of your furnace, but these filters have more media packed into the same amount of space. The UFO filters actually become more efficient as they pack with dirt, and it is recommended they be changed just one time per year. To change a set of (4) filters you simply open the door, slide out the old filters, and slide in the replacements. High Efficiency Particulate Air Cleaner (HEPA): ** The HEPA air filtration system consists of the main unit (with a blower) and a set of (3) different filters. These filters (pre-filters, charcoal, and main) are layered to create an air filtration system that is designed to remove 99.97% of all the air borne particles in your home. This unit must be installed near your furnace, and filter changes are designed to maximize the efficiency of the air filtration system. It is recommended that the pre-filters are changed every two months, the charcoal filter changed once a year, and the main filter is changed every three years. The HEPA air filtration system is initially more costly due to the unit itself and the cost of installation, but will offer the most effective and efficient method of air borne particle removal in your home. ** The HEPA air filtration system most be used in conjunction with one of the (6) filter/air cleaner options previously mentioned
